The Exhibition Space Comes Alive: Prosto Nebylytsi in Calgary

One of the most crucial stages of the Canadian presentation for the All Ukrainian project for young artists, “Prosto Nebylytsi”, has been completed at the Calgary Central Library: the curation and professional design of the exhibition space.

This exhibition is a landmark event in the project’s history, as it marks the first time in its 15 years of existence that “Prosto Nebylytsi” is being presented in Canada. The showcase introduces Canadian audiences to the work of a new generation of Ukrainian artists while advancing the vital mission of cultural diplomacy by creating a vibrant dialogue between Ukraine and Canada through the language of art.

Much of the behind the scenes work was accomplished through the dedicated efforts of the Ukrainian Studies team. Installing the exhibition, positioning the artworks, organizing the space, and managing numerous technical and design details required precise coordination, responsibility, and countless hours of labor. As a result, the staging and curation of the exhibition were executed professionally, systematically, and to an exceptionally high standard.

An equally important component was the public relations campaign, conducted by Ukrainian Studies on their consistently high level. After all, an exhibition does not begin simply when the first visitor walks into the gallery. It starts much earlier with communication, organization, material preparation, and the daily work of the individuals who help bring Ukrainian art to a wider audience.

We also extend our gratitude to the Calgary Central Library for hosting the exhibition and supporting the preparatory process. The library’s practical assistance was foundational, consisting primarily of providing the necessary technical equipment for the installation and framing of the exhibit. Nevertheless, this support was a valuable contribution to our shared success.

Most importantly, the exhibition space has come alive. Ukrainian artworks have claimed their places on the walls, and behind each piece lies not only the talent of a young creator but also the immense effort of the people who made their journey across the ocean to the Canadian viewer possible.

“Prosto Nebylytsi” in Calgary is an exhibition that serves as yet another Ukrainian voice in the international cultural sphere. And this voice rings out with dignity, professionalism, and confidence.
